The proposal is for partial support of the Fifth International Conference on Surface Modification Technologies, to be held in Birmingham, England during September 6-9, 1991. Additional support is being sought separately from large U.K. companies, including Rolls Royce, Leyland and TI. Surface modification is a rapidly advancing materials technology small of direct interest to the community served by the MET program. This conference has drawn participants from 25 countries, including many of the leading researchers in this field.
