Travel Award for Herbert Windom to the USSR

This proposal will fund the project development visits of Dr. Evgueny Shumilin and Nikolay A. Goryachev, Pacific Oceanological Institute, Far Eastern Science Center, Academy of Sciences, Vladivostok, USSR, to Skidaway Institute of Oceanography at Savannah, Georgia for two weeks. The purpose of the visits is to develop a cooperative research program on riverine transport to ocean systems and to assist in the analysis of samples collected from the Mekong River estuary, an area of common interest. This project fulfills the program objective of advancing scientific knowledge by enabling leading researchers in the United States and the U.S.S.R. to combine complementary efforts and capabilities in areas of strong mutual interest and competence in the field of basic scientific research on the basis of equality, reciprocity, and mutuality of benefit.
