The responsibilities of the office include the development and implementation of the RIDGE science plan, organizing planning meetings and workshops, holding conferences, producing and distributing a semi-annual newsletter, facilitating timely responses to major earthquake or volcanic events on the mid-ocean ridge, implementing RIDGE-oriented data management and archiving systems, and pursuing international collaborative efforts on a bilateral and multilateral level. Effectively 1 June 1995 Jeff Fox will assume the chari of the RIDGE steering committee and the RIDGE office will formally move to the Graduate School of Oceanography/University of Rhode Island from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. ***
