Profs. Hu and Jacobson are carrying out a broad program of research in theoretical gravitation. They will apply techniques from field theory to problems in cosmology, black holes, relativistic thermodynamics, and quantum gravity. Results of their work may lead to important insights, not only in the areas mentioned above, but also in probing the deeper structures of physical laws under extreme conditions and understanding their manifestations in the origin and dynamics of the universe.
