The subject of atom interferometry, the ability to split and then recombine matter waves, has great promise for measuring weak interactions and for ultra high precision measurements. Several topics related to this subject will be explored. They include methods for focussing an atomic beam to a single spot, Bragg scattering of atoms by counterpropagating optical fields and the use of Rydberg atoms to construct a new type of atom interferometer.
