Structure of the neutron and few-body nuclear systems with electron scattering

0072384PetratosThis is a proposal to investigate the internal structure anddynamics of the neutron and of the lightest nuclei in nature,deuterium and helium. The investigation will be based onexperimental studies of high energy electrons scattering offhydrogen and helium isotopes. The proposed research will use theelectron beam of the Jefferson Lab accelerator to bombard cryogenicdeuterium and helium targets and to study the nuclear reactionproducts with superconducting magnetic spectrometers. The resultsare expected to provide fundamental information on the distributionsof the three quark constituents of the neutron, the wave functionsof deuterium and helium and the interaction of the proton andneutron constituents of the two light nuclei.
