Project C2 analyzes differences in aspect usage between Russian, Czech and Polish in order to find out what contextual factors lead to either large or minor grammatical differences between these lan-guages, thus contributing to the description of semantic and pragmatic variation. Our research focus-es on two areas: (i) the influence of pragmatic and contextual factors on the reinterpretation and/or grammaticalization of aspect usage (performatives, imperatives), (ii) the relation between grammar and lexicon (aspect and Aktionsart, verbal periphrases). These two areas of focus will improve our understanding of the way composition of meaning and context interact.
