This award will provide support for several experimental researchactivities based at Jefferson Laboratory in Newport News, VA. Theseinclude: (1) a measurement of the neutral pion lifetime, which willprovide a quantitative test of predictions of quantumchromodynamics; (2) tests of so-called parton-hadron duality ininelastic electron scattering from the proton; (3) electromagneticproduction of strange particles and hypernuclei. These efforts willinvolve strong participation by students and postdoctoralresearchers from underrepresented groups.
