AbstractAward: DMS-0306656Principal Investigator: James A. IsenbergIt is proposed that the National Science Foundation providefunding for the meetings of the Pacific Northwest GeometrySeminar (PNGS) to be held during the three-year period from July1, 2003 to June 30, 2006 at University of British Columbia,Oregon State University, University of Oregon, University ofUtah, University of Washington, Portland State University, andStanford University. PNGS meetings generally feature 4 or 5invited research talks by leading experts in differentialgeometry and algebraic geometry. The meetings also includediscussion sessions in which the speakers and participants assessthe state of various areas in geometry, and highlight openproblems in these areas.There are a number of very active researchers in geometryscattered throughout the various universities which are involvedin the Pacific Northwest Geometry Seminar. These periodicmeetings bring these researchers together for consultation,collaboration, and stimulation of new ideas. A number of researchprograms have been initiated as a result of interactions at thesemeetings. The PNGS is especially valuable for graduate studentsin geometry at the various participating universities which havesmall geometry groups. The PNGS meetings give these students anexcellent opportunity to see the broader picture of research ingeometry.
