英文摘要
With the recent advances in theory, technology and applications ofwireless communications a vision of the next generation wirelesssystems arises to be that of communicating arbitrarily correlateddata, in arbitrarily structured networks, in challenging physicallayer conditions, using wireless devices that are more flexible interms of their transmitting/receiving capabilities and in terms of theboundaries between the layers of their protocol stack. The goal ofthis research is to develop a comprehensive information theoreticframework for determining the ultimate capacity limits of suchnetworks and for developing efficient coding, transmission, receptionand decoding schemes to be used in such networks. The research is structured into four heavily interrelated parts:network, data, tools, and channel. This research investigates thecapacity regions and capacity achieving transmit/receivecoding/decoding schemes of basic network structures that are buildingblocks of general ad-hoc multi-hop wireless networks, with an emphasison the interference channel. This research develops principles ofcommunicating correlated and common data. Specifically, theinvestigator determines the optimum coding and transmission schemesfor correlated/common data and also studies the trade-offs betweenperformance and complexity; in particular, the loss in performancewhen the source-channel separation principle is enforced. Thisresearch develops new tools and integrates and jointly optimizes someof the existing tools; the emphasis is on the joint optimization ofuser cooperation and power control. This research integrates thefading nature of the wireless communication channel into all of theproblem formulations. The existence of fading in the channel can beboth challenging and fortuitous, more the latter, if it is carefullyexploited to the advantage of the network capacity. The investigatorincorporates the existence of the channel fading into the capacityevaluations (hence, ergodic and outage capacities), into coding andtransmission schemes for common/correlated data, and also into thedevelopment of the tools.------------------
