This proposal was received in response to Nanoscale Science and Engineering Education initiative, NSF 05-543, category NUE. In this award, funded by the Chemistry Division, Prof. Kimberly A. Pacheco and her colleagues at the University of Northern Colorado will form interdisciplinary learning communities for undergraduates, will develop nanoscale science modules for incorporation into first- and second-year Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Pre-service Teacher Education courses, and will have undergraduate pre-service teachers participate in an internship program. The broader impacts of the proposed work comes from the efforts that the NUE team will make to disseminate their work through the University's website, as well as websites of the Colorado Nanotechnology Initiative. In addition, the involvement of pre-service teachers in the program is expected to impact K-12 nanoscience education across the state of Colorado.
