AbstractAward: DMS-0603294Principal Investigator: Frederic Mynard and Francis JordanThe 2006 Summer Conference on Topology and its Applications willbe held July 6-9, 2006, at Georgia Southern University inStatesboro, GA. This conference is the twenty-first in a seriesthat began at City College of New York in 1984 and has been heldevery year, except 1986, at locations in the United States andabroad. There will be seven invited plenary speakers, all ofwhich are international leaders in their fields. Additionally,two workshops will be conducted on "Physics and Domain Theory"and "Selection principles in topology", each of which will meetthree times. These workshops will provide opportunities forresearchers and students to obtain an up-to-date overview ofspecific and particularly active areas of research. Finally, sixspecial sessions are planned, each of which will be organized bya group of three leading researchers in the corresponding fieldand feature one semi-plenary speaker and more than twenty otherspeakers. The special sessions are: Set-theory and Topology,Topological Groups and Semi-groups, Asymmetric Topology, Topologyin Dynamical Systems, Fractals and Tilings, and CategoricalTopology. The areas of expertise of the plenary speakers reflectthe diversity of themes of the special sessions.For more than twenty years, this series of conferences has beenone of the main forums for researchers in topology and relatedfields. Topology is an area of pure mathematics that interactswith virtually every other branch of mathematics in addition tomany other scientific fields. Applications of topology in otherareas of mathematics, physics, and computer science have longbeen a focus of this series of conferences. The 2006 conferencewill continue this tradition, as reflected by the variety ofworkshops and special sessions proposed. This conference usuallybrings together over 125 researchers and graduate students fromacross the United States and more than 25 other countries. Thegoals of this conference are to present participants with theleading experts and latest research in topology and relatedfields; foster collaborations and interactions betweenresearchers in topology and related fields; provide theopportunity for graduate students and underrepresented groups tobe exposed to the latest research in topology-related fields andto interact with leading researchers in these areas.
