ABSTRACT 0623861 (Ryan)Intellectual Merit: This work continues the development and operation of a single integrated Data Management Systems for the NSF RIDGE 200 and MARGINS Programs. Work involves designing protocols for the retrieval and ingestion of metadata tables and associated data objects from past and present sea-gong expeditions within focus sites targeted by the MARGINS and RIDGE communities. It also involves uploading metadata and all associated data objects into the system. Development is under way to increase the ease of use and search versatility. Visualization tools, improved data retrieval protocols, and additional functionality are also under development. Crucial to the effort is integration with the ODP and IODP databases and building a prototype interface for DSDP data. Creation of a vent image database is under way and all data for the MARGINS and RIDGE focus sites will be packaged so they can be viewed on Google Earth.Broader Impacts: This work's primary impact is improving the infrastructure for science and enabling sea-going scientists to have easier access to large complex databases and provide them with search and visualization tools to allow them to find new and integrative ways to view and interpret their data. Students will be involved and trained in the database and interface development and manipulation. Public outreach is anticipated through the compatibility with and accessibility of the data via Google Earth.
