2007 ACES Workshop: Forecasting Methodology for Earthquakes and Tsunamis Using Simulations and Information Technology during Spring 2008 in Australia

This workshop award will allow US scientists to attend an ACES workshop in the Spring, 2008 in Australia, meeting with international scientific colleagues from the Asia-Pacific Rim countries. ACES is the APEC Cooperation for Earthquake Simulation (ACES), an international collaboration of scientists thathas been meeting since February 1999. ACES was adopted as a joint project of the APEC member economies at the October 1997 Singapore meeting of the APEC Industrial Scientific and Technology Working group with sponsorship by Australia, China, Japan and the United States, and must make periodic reports of progress to the US State Department. This meeting will kickoff phase II of ACES, which will focus on developing an international collaboratory for studying earthquakes and tsunamis. The purpose of the proposed workshop will be to facilitate collaborations that blend information technology, grid computing, visualization, statistical pattern analysis, remote sensing (InSAR and GPS), and high performance computingand simulations. NSF funding would be used to fund early career scientists and students to participate.
