Computer Science (31)The University of Texas at El Paso and Texas A&M Corpus Christi in consultationwith Georgia Tech, are investigating the impact of an existingprogramming-centric computer literacy course that has attracted women intocomputing. This research effort is investigating how the successful approachof this course can be applied to Hispanics enrolled at Hispanic servinginstitutions. This effort is increasing the understanding of how curriculumdesign can affect the attractiveness of technical careers. Data forlongitudinal studies to evaluate how participation in this course correlateswith future success in technology-related careers is being collected. Incollaboration with career planning experts, the pedagogical techniquesunderlying this course are being adapted to students from diverse disciplines.This project is improving computing literacy among non-computing majors and theresults are being deployed and evaluated at six of the eight members of theComputing Alliance for Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
