National Science FoundationNSF Software Development for Cyberinfrastructure (SDCI) ProgramOffice of CyberinfrastructureProposal Number: 0721364Principal Investigator: Shava SmallenInstitution: University of California-San DiegoProposal Title: SDCI Improvement: Monitoring User-level Grid Functionality and performance Using IncaAbstractThis project will enhance the usability and flexibility of a grid monitoring system called Inca. Inca allows grid operators and administrators to track the status of a grid from a user-level perspective, providing automated testing of the services and software that make up a Grid. Inca is a core component of TeraGrid and is used by at least 7 other grid facilities. New features implemented in this proposal include historical data and graphing support, testing against application requirements, and support for a knowledge-base of user-controlled troubleshooting solutions and scenarios. Intellectual merit is addressed by the proposal in the form of new troubleshooting capabilities made available to grid providers. Broader impact is essentially the potential to make grids more reliable and robust through far more effective monitoring.
