This project is awarding scholarships to academically talented first- and second-year students and is supporting the scholars through a variety of structures and programs on campus. Students from underrepresented groups are being especially targeted for support. Students are targeted for participation in three departments: physics, mathematics, and computer science. The students are participating in mentoring activities both with faculty and with upper-division students in their respective departments. Alumni and industry leaders in the region are also serving as role models to the students in the program. Retaining at least 85% of the student scholars to their junior year is a project goal.
