The AGU Chapman Conference on Long Time-Series Observations of Coastal Ecosystems will be hosted by the Rudjer Boskovic Institute, Center for Marine Research in Rovinj, Croatia, on 8-12 October 2007. The NSF OCE is one of several conference sponsors (including the USGS, the Rudjer Boskovic Institue, the EU Network of Excellence for Ocean Ecosystem Analysis [EUR-OCEANS], and the Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning Programme) contributing financial support. Funds from this award will be used to cover expenses (hotel, meals, registration and travel) to qualified participates. Workshop participants will compare patterns, processes and scales of phytoplankton variability and the population ecology of key species across the full diversity of coastal ecosystem types on a global scale. Results of the workshop will be published as a review paper or AGU Monograph providing a synthesis of emergent rules of coastal phytoplankton dynamics, supporting data and methods of hypothesis testing.
