The scientific goal of the project is to obtain the capability to rapidly observe the epoch of early star formation in the universe, manifested in the reradiated thermal emission from dusty, high-redshift ultra luminous galaxies. This project will support the commissioning and early science operations of the a 2 millimeter wavelength bolometer camera that is optimized to efficiently observe the high-redshift galaxies without requiring excellent weather conditions. The instrument will be installed on a 30 meter telescope on Pico Veleta in Spain. Results from these observations will feed directly into the science programs of the future James Webb Space Telescope and the Atacama Large Millimeter Array.
