Aim of the project is to digitialise by 2013 the complete collection of 80 sketchbooks, 300 watercolours and drawings as well as the material from the August Macke Archive (letters, postcards, photographs and other material), to document it systematically in an electronic database and to make this collection available online. Thus, the complete collection of works by AugustMacke in the LWL-Landesmuseum will be available for research for the first time, something which wasn't possible before due to conservation reasons.Macke's sketchbooks are not only more complete than those of any other artists but the variety and range of techniques - pencil, ink, crayons, watercolour, pastel used are unique. He used drawing thoughout his career as source of inspiration and his artistic development is mirrored in them.
