„The goal of this project is to use femtosecond laser spectroscopy to study the dynamics of the processes occurring between semiconductor nanowires, their functionalized surfaces and the surrounding medium. We will apply different spectroscopy techniques to address the different time scales on which these processes are expected to happen. Two-color pump-probe transmission spectroscopy will allow studying polariton amplification in nanowire/Bragg structures as well as energy and electron transfer processes between nanowires and attached organic layers. Spectrally and time-resolved photoluminescence measurements on a ps to ms time scale will be used to clarify the dynamics of the excitation channels and decay pathways in nanowire/transition-metal or nanowire/rare-earth systems as well as nanowire LED structures. The results are expected to provide information about excited-state lifetimes and channels/pathways through which energy and electrons are exchanged between the different components of the functionalized nanowire structures. Further, the question will be addressed how surface and environment affect the electronic band structure in the nanowire surface region.“
