The aims of this Research Unit are: (1) a comprehensive understanding of the acting mechanism of nano-scaled additives to polymer matrices of continuous fibre reinforced polymer composites with respect to improved matrix dominated properties, damage tolerance combined with unchanged processability; proof of the effect up to structural level; (2) experimental investigation of the functional correlation between the particle properties and the resulting properties of the epoxy-suspension to be processed and the resulting composite properties; (3) multi-scale simulation along the entire process chain up to structural level. The combination of experimental investigations and simulation methods enables a holistic understanding of the acting principles and basic mechanisms.
