英文摘要
The aim of this project is to elucidate the importance of the circadian time keeping system for fitness in the model species Drosophila melanogaster. We will continue our studies on period (per) mutants to test the consequences of an either too fast circadian clock (pers), a too slow circadian clock (perl) or an absent circadian clock (per01) on lifespan and fitness. In particular, we aim to explain the apparent shorter life span and lower fitness of the per mutants in competition experiments found in the first funding period by investigating their metabolism, their cuticular hydrocarbon profiles and by studying their mating preferences.
