The formation of small oligodepsipeptides (ODP)-based nanocarriers with diameters <100 nm is the goal of this project. Drug loading and release will be tailored by employing ODPs strongly stabilizing particles, thereby enabling high drug encapsulation and lowering release rates by forming a dense matrix. Particles of >100 nm will be created, which will be taken up into hair follicles and will then disintegrate on demand upon exposure to an external stimulus into smaller units that are able to permeate from the hair follicle into the surrounding dermis. The capability to disintegrate on demand shall be implemented by a shape-memory effect of the small-sized nanoparticles.
