New methods for investigating the development of coarticulation in young children

The main goal of this research project is to investigate the development of spoken language in the first decade of life. First, we examine how the development of vocabulary and phonological awareness affect the acquisition coarticulation organization. To achieve this goalswe use analyzes of acoustic and articulatory data using a platform developed at the lab (SOLLAR, Noiray, Ries, Tiede, 2015) as well as various tests for language-related skills. The second study looks at adults and children´s perception of coarticulation from children and adults´s speech. The third research component investigates articulatory organization in the first syllabic utterances of young infants that only have limited experience with their native language.
