Imaging of water fluxes and solute transport in natural soil cores by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) requires the minimization of detection time after excitation, since in such materials relaxation times can easily reach the sub-millisecond range. Convenient pulse sequences have been developed for medical diagnostics and are principally also convenient for geophysical applications. But their implementation requires further pushing of the time limitations. Based on the acquired knowledge about relaxation and imaging in geological media the TR32, and the geophysical community, will have instruments for reliably monitoring of water fluxes and solute transport in natural geological cores.
