GRK 629: Quantitative Economics

The doctoral program in quantitative economics aims tofollow the example of the best European and American gradute programs in economics in preparing highly qualified students with a strong interest in economic research for careers as professional economists in academia, in research organizations, in publics service or in private firms. Students will learn the formal tools of economics by following courses in advanced microeonomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. In subsequent topic courses students acquire several specialities and prepare for independent research. Topic courses are offered in fields such as contract theory, game theory, labor economics, international macro and mathematical finance, reflectingthe current research interests of the faculty associated with the doctoral program. The research agenda to be pursued in the context of the doctoral program is organized around a number of main themes, relating to recent developments in experimental economics, game theory, contract theory, economic policy, and financial economics. Each of these themes is pursued by multiple members of the faculty and is designed to further the development of the appropriate theoretical, empiricial and experimental tools of quantititative economics in the context of specific applications,drawn, in particular, from the field of institutional economics.
