In the Cologne Center for Terahertz Spectroscopy unique, state-of-the-art spectroscopy instruments will be made available to outside users. The center offers an exceptionally large frequency range from millimeter wavelengths to the mid infrared (0.03 to 100 THz). The instruments allow for experiments to be carried out at highest spectral resolution but also with an unparalleled spectral coverage and in most parts at an unprecedented sensitivity. This combination of unique experimental capabilities is and will be very attractive to outside users. These users are assisted in their work by experienced team scientists guaranteeing highest-quality output as already proven on a best effort basis over the last five years. The results of these experiments will be made available publically in the Cologne Database for Molecular Spectroscopy (CDMS), the largest repository of Terahertz spectroscopic data worldwide. This first class infrastructure provides a unique scientific environment where young scientists are trained in spectroscopy and disciplines like molecular physics, theoretical and organic chemistry as well as astronomy meet. This center will provide the laboratory infrastructure and the data needed for the interdisciplinary research of the 21st century.
