项目摘要

本研究の目的は、インドネシア南スラウェシにおいて数世紀にわたって製造されている木造船の事例から、伝統的な地域産業が21世紀においてどのように維持されているのかについて明らかにすることである。変化の激しい現代社会においてローカルな木造船づくりが今日でも盛んに行われている社会的背景を理解するために、本研究では木造船を造る船大工やそれを利用する漁師・観光事業者らへの参与観察および聞取り等の人類学的フィールドワークを通して、造船産業を取り巻く社会環境を多角的な視点から検討した。令和4年度は、前年度に計画していたものの、パンデミックの影響で延期となっていたインドネシアにおけるフィールドワーク調査を中心に行った。本研究活動は、2022年末から12月末までの約9か月間、インドネシア・南スラウェシ州マカッサル市およびブルクンバ県に滞在して実施された。本滞在の目的は、①船づくりの利用と製造実態に関するフィールドワーク調査の実施、②本テーマに関連する二次資料の収集、③研究者ネットワークの構築の主に３つに分けられる。①のフィールドワーク調査では、当該地域における中心的な造船基地となっているブルクンバ県タナベル村の造船所にて聞取りや参与観察を含む実地調査を行った。本調査を通して、現地の船大工や漁師らから、今日における木造船づくりやその利用状況に関する知見を得ることができた。また、②と③に関しては、南スラウェシ州における海洋文化研究の拠点となっている国立ハサヌディン大学において、関連する文献や資料の収集ならびに研究者間の情報交換を目的に、当該大学の社会政治学部人類学科を訪問した。現地の船づくりや漁業に関する先行研究の整理や研究者間の意見交換を通して、木造船の製造と利用に関する学術的知見を得ることができた。
