项目摘要

本研究は、日本映画の黄金期である1950年代に躍進を遂げた東映について主に映画製作面から分析するものであるが、今年度は主に、21年度から注目していた、東映が映画を量産するようになった背景と、産業的な事情について、継続的に研究をおこなっていった。東映は、従来の映画館での2本立て興行を、すべて自社作品で埋めようと週替わりで2本の映画を劇場に配給する、新作2本立て配給を実施し、そのために、映画の量産を推し進めた。その作戦が成功し、東映は契約を結ぶ映画館のシェアを拡大させ、配給収入で業界トップとなった。他の映画会社も、新作2本立てを実施すべく、映画の量産をおこなうようになり、日本映画の黄金期を象徴する映画の大量生産、大量消費が実現する。こうして東映が映画の量産を先導したわけだが、そこには戦後になって再開された映画館での2本立て興行が関係しており、どのような経緯で、戦後、映画館が2本立てを再開するようになったのかを詳しく調査した。また、東映を含む大手映画会社は、製作した自社作品を映画館に配給し、それを映画館が上映するという、製作、配給、興行（上映）の強固な連結があったことで、映画会社は成功した。だが、そうしたシステムは、特定の会社による寡占の形成を許すため、独占禁止法の疑いをかけられた。そうした法的問題への産業の対応と、製作、配給、興行の連結が強固になっていく過程についても詳しく調査した。以上のような調査を踏まえて、研究論文を執筆し、2023年度刊行予定の本のなかに掲載されることになっている。また、黄金期の映画産業を詳しく分析するため、海外への映画の輸出に目を向けた調査もおこない、その論考を2022年度にまとめ、論文集に寄稿し、出版された。
