大別して、次の三つの営為から構成される研究を行った。１．劇テクストの調査・分析によるデータ収集、２．関連する諸研究の調査および研究、３．理論の構築、論考の作成。１と２を行いながら、本年度は、特に３に力を入れた。以下、それぞれについて順に記す。1. 当時の演劇関係文書（現存する上演用台本等）や観劇の記録や舞台への言及を含む文書や作品、劇作品自体などを調査対象として、問題解明のための証拠や手掛かりとなる情報や例の発見に努めた。本年度は、特に国王一座に関係のある劇テクストを中心に調査した。２. 近代初期イギリス演劇および関連諸分野の研究動向を常に把握しながら研究を進めていくために、上演研究、テクスト理論、現存するマニュスクリプトの分析、当時の各劇団のレパートリー等に関する研究の調査を行い、とりわけ上演研究の諸論文から、きわめて有益な示唆を得た。また、現行版本の注釈などからも学ぶところが多かった。３．こうした調査を行いながら、ジョン・フレッチャーとウィリアム・ローリー共作の喜劇『水車小屋の乙女』の第一・二つ折り本テクスト（１６４７）に印刷されている "Six Chaires placed at the Arras" というト書きが、この劇が初演された第二グローブ座の舞台構造に関して示唆するところが大きいことに気がついた。他の劇テクストからも "at the arras" というフレーズを含むト書きを収集し、そのフレーズが第二グローブ座および第二ブラックフライアーズ座において、楽屋正面壁の中央開口部に言及するために使用された可能性について検証した。それに関する論文“At the Arras: What Is the Location Implied in This Phrase?" を Shakespeare Bulletin に投稿し掲載された。
