2022年度は2021年度に引き続き、Jane Austenの小説の分析に集中した。_Jane Austen's Fiction Manuscripts_ (OUP, 2018)を利用して、Austenの_Persuasion_(1818)や未完成作品_Sandition_の改稿過程についての分析を行った。_Persuasion_については、海軍提督の妻であるMrs Croftの存在によって、イギリスの海外進出のアトラスが、家庭の領域に入り込んでいることに注目した。ヒロインの結婚を通して、このような帝国としてのイギリスの在り方が承認されることになるが、その過程は、_Persuasion_の最後の2章の改稿にもつながる問題である。_Sanditon_は投機というより新しく不安定な経済に基づくイングランドの在り方を扱っている。このリゾートへの西インド諸島からお金の流入というテーマは、この新たなイングランドと植民地の経済が密接につながっていることを物語っている。並行して、ネイションへの想像力の問題を、女性の移動という観点からも検討し、Sydney Owenson, _Florence Macarthy_とAusten,_Emma_(1816)の比較考察も進めた。これらの作品はナショナル・テイルというサブジャンルに属すテクストととらえることができ、「旅」と「結婚」がテーマとなる。これらの作品での女性の移動の描き方を、男性の目的論的な旅の陰画ととらえた。Owensonは、自在に移動するヒロインFlorence Macarthyに旅のエージェンシーを与えているが、それはあくまでも男性主人公の「代理」的なものとなっている。一方、_Emma_においはヒロインが中心たるイングランドのHighburyにおける「不動」の存在となることで、ヒロインにネイション意識を集約させている。
