项目摘要

日本における西洋文学の翻訳は、初期には英語経由で行われたケースが目立つが、韓国や台湾においては、英語ではなく日本語訳の場合が少なくなかった。しかしながら翻訳の底本を確定することは時間を要する作業であるため実証的な研究は少ない。本研究が主に調査しているグリム童話の場合、日本の明治から大正期の翻訳は、英語経由のものが多い。また大胆な変更も散見され翻案に近いものも多い。こうして原典から少し離れることによって、その特徴が翻訳文に痕跡として残る。同一の特徴が、韓国語訳や中国語訳にみられる場合には、日本語訳が翻訳底本とされたことを実証的に示すことが可能となるのである。こうした研究を積み重ねることで、アジアにおける文化的つながりの一端を示すことができる。それは現在の我々の文化交流を支える礎ともなるものであろう。初期の西洋文学の翻訳においては、韓国や台湾においてはこれまで知られている以上に日本との繋がりがあったのではないかという観点から、調査の基礎資料となるデータベースの構築を行うのが本研究の柱のひとつである。本年度は研究の一環で、グリム童話の邦訳の悉皆調査の際に、これまで知られていなかった明治期のグリム童話の邦訳を新たに発見した。平凡社の創業者でもある平中弥三郎が編集に携わった『児童新聞』（のちに『児童教育』『児童世界』と名前を変える）には、グリム、アンデルセン、ペローの童話の邦訳やアラビアンナイトの抄訳が掲載されていた。その中には本邦初訳も含まれており、この発見は研究史上においては、2015年の府川源一郎氏によるグリムとアンデルセンの童話の新発見に続くものである。『児童新聞』『児童教育』『児童世界』の巻頭言からは、読者数が徐々に拡大し、韓国や台湾でも読まれていたことが明らかである。海外からの日本語での投稿も掲載されている。これは本研究の今後の基礎資料のひとつとなるものである。
