本研究の目的は、さまざまな要因が競合したり相乗効果を生じたりするなど、要因が複雑に影響し合う談話を、第二言語話者がどのように構築していくか統合的に捉え、その発達過程を明らかにすることである。2022年度は、本研究の問いである (1)先行研究を概観し、各研究の理論、研究方法、得られた知見を体系的に整理し、談話構築能力の発達研究に援用できる理論、研究方法をまとめること、(2)伝達相手に向けての談話（横断データ）のデータ収集と文字化、(3)複数名による話し合いの談話（縦断データ）およびインタビューによるデータ収集と文字化を行い、(2)と(3)の分析をする予定であった。このうち、(3)については、引き続き、コロナ感染拡大下にあったため、2023年度にデータを収集する予定であり、2022年度はその準備のみ行った。(1)については、談話構造の特徴を把握する機能主義的アプローチの１つとして、修辞機能を用いた分析方法、および、談話構築能力の発達研究に関しての研究会「L2談話習得研究会」を立ち上げ、オンライン上のデータの分析をする試みを行った。(2)については、2022年度は、談話に取り込まれる引用表現に着目し、母語別に分析を行った。その結果、日本語母語話者が主人公の発話を中心に物語を語っていくのに対し、日本語学習者の語りには、主人公以外のさまざまな登場者たちの声が入り、それぞれの登場者たちの立場や気持ちを語りつつ物語を進めていくことが観察された。この結果が母語によるナラティブのスタイルの違いによるものか、第二言語による制約とそのストラテジーからくるものかについての分析は、2023年度のインタビューを含めたデータ収集で行なっていく。
