项目摘要

2021年度からの継続研究として、社会言語能力との結びつきの強いeメールに焦点を当て、ジャンル・アプローチに基づくライティング指導を日本人大学生に対して行いその効果を検証する試みを行った。eメールの内容、構造、言語表現の３つの観点に関する指導方法を考案し、学生の書いた指導前と指導後のeメールを比較分析した。その結果３つの観点すべてにおいて指導の効果が認められたものの、内容、構造に比べ、言語表現に関しては顕著な伸びは見られなかった。言語表現については、より時間をかけて練習を重ねる必要があることが判明した。この研究結果は論文としてまとめ、関東甲信越英語教育の学会誌であるKATE Journal No. 36に掲載された。また、英語のライティング指導を行う前提として、日本語と英語の語彙、文構造、及び文章構造を比較し、学習者に両言語の相違点についての気づきを促し意識化させることも重要である。こうした気づきや意識化は、言語的・文化的コンテクストを重視するジャンル・アプローチの効果を高める要因となると思われる。2021年度から日英語・日本英語圏文化の違いをまとめた原稿を執筆してきたが、2022年度には原稿を本としてまとめ、『異文化コミュニケーション―自文化と異文化の理解をめざして―』（専修大学出版局）として刊行することができた。さらに、2022年度にはジャンル・アプローチに日本語での指導を部分的に導入する方法を考案する試みに取りかかった。英語を外国語として学ぶ日本の教育環境において、大多数の学習者と教師が共有する母語としての日本語を活用することは、学習効率を高める可能性を秘めているのではないかと考えられる。この指導方法については、Senshu Journal of Foreign Langauge Education No.51に投稿し掲載された。
