项目摘要

デザイン分野の学生は、座学よりもむしろプロジェクトを行うことが多く、プレゼンテーションなどの口頭での発表が主な発表形態であるため、正課の英語授業は英語を読む・聞くなどのインプット学習が多くなるため、プロジェクトの現場で活かせる英語力養成にはなかなかつながらない。本研究では、デザイン分野に特化したProblem-based Leaning（PBL）プロジェクトの実践で使える英語のスピーキング能力を育成する学習プログラムの開発を行うことが目標である。2022年度は、研究分担者の授業を見学し、授業中の学生のプロダクト分野のプレゼンテーションを録画し、発表内容からどのような英語表現が必要とされるかについてのデータを前年度に引き続き収集した。また学内における作品展示の写真撮影、他大学のデザイン系、アート系の卒業制作展の見学や資料収集を行った。卒業制作展での英語の使用はあまりなされていないが、外国人観光客が増加していることも鑑みると、発信を英語でする意義はやはりあると思われた。またデザイン系の書籍においては、説明や内容が日本語と英語両方で記述されていることも多く、その意味においても、デザイン系の学生が英語に習熟しておく意義は大きいとも思われた。また、非常に日本的な概念を扱う作品の場合、どうしても英語で表現するのが難しいと思われるものも多く、主語を明確にしないで述べることも多い日本語の文章を英語に直すことが、他の科学技術系の分野に比べるとより一層難しくなるとも思われる。その意味でも、扱われる題材やテーマの幅が広く、奥行きが深いため、デザイン分野の英語教材として取り扱うコンテンツを絞ることの難しさを痛感している。
