新学習指導要領準拠の小学校５，６年及び中学校３学年分の３種類の英語教科書を比較薄井や文法別に検討したものである。まず、語彙の観点から見ると，CR分析においては、小学校英語教科書で学習指導湯量が題材としている「身近なこと」や「文化」を示す語群が成分の上位に入っており、量的に学習指導要領で示されている指導が実践されているように思われた。その一方で、語彙数・異語数等において小学校と中学校の英語教科書の間には大きな違いがあることが示された。包括的な英語教育を考えると、小学校・中学校の連携をより重視する必要がある。次に、文法項目「助動詞」及び「過去時制」の観点で見ると、教科書によってそれらの文法項目の導入に差異が見られる状況があり、語彙同様、小学校と中学校の間に違いがあり、連携がスムーズであるとは言い難い側面が見受けられた。また、談話標識の観点から見ると、中学校では英語力を支える重要な要素として扱われていることが分かった。しかし、小学校においては教科書間で多少差異はあるが、ある程度は学習できる内容を盛り込む必要性を感じた。以上、簡単ではあるが小学校・中学校の英語教科書5か年分の分析結果を報告させていただいた。結論的には、小学校と中学校の英語教科書に関して、学習指導要領に準じてはいるものの、語彙や各文法項目など観点から見て、小学校と中学校間で、より連携を深めた繋がりのある英語教科書作成が必要であると言える。
