今年度は昨年度に引き続き、広島県山県郡北広島町上石に展開する小見谷製鉄遺跡群中のカミショウブ第１号製鉄遺跡の発掘調査を実施した。昨年度検出していた遺構上面から掘り下げ、遺構の立体的な構造や遺跡全体の状況の把握を目的として調査を実施し、遺跡・遺構の全体像をほぼ把握することができた。製鉄炉地下の本床状遺構は土壁を立てるタイプであるが、これまで北広島地域で確認されているものに比べて細長い形状であることが判明した。また、本床状遺構がやや湾曲していることも確認され、この点でもこの地域でこれまでに知られていた遺構の状況と異なっている。高さは50㎝程度と、あまり高くない。小舟状遺構は本床状遺構の両側に見られるようであるが、木炭などは充填されておらず、一度熱した後に土で埋めているようである。ただし端部のみは木炭粉を詰めていることが確認できた。製鉄作業に伴う排滓はおもに本床状遺構の南側に向けて行われたようで、排滓溝からは最終操業に伴うと考えられる流出滓が残存していた。本床状遺構の両側に配置された台状高まりのうち、東側の高まりの炉に面した側の裾部はやや大型の炉壁片などを並べて置いていることが確認できた。これらのほか、木炭置場や砂鉄置場も確認されてた。砂鉄は遺構面に薄く散布しているだけかと思われたが、径約50㎝、厚さ５～７㎝の厚さで堆積していることが判明した。木炭置場や排滓溝、小舟状遺構上面から出土した木炭や砂鉄置場から出土した砂鉄は年代測定や樹種鑑定、成分鑑定を行うため専門機関に調査を依頼している。考古学的調査と同時に中世の職能集団の組織や活動状況、ならびに安芸北部地域周辺の中世の政治・社会状況を理解するための文献収集を行った。

The thickness of the sand and iron layers is about 50 cm and 5~7 cm, respectively.
