项目摘要

本研究は、1530年代のドイツ北西部下ライン地方、ヴェストファーレン地方、低地地方に広がっていた宗教改革運動を例に、宣教の方法と効果を実証的に明らかにすることを目的としている。その際特に重視しているのは、史料に乏しく実態の把握が難しい日常生活における口頭でのコミュニケーションを使った宣教である。本研究では、当局に逮捕された再洗礼派の審問記録を用いて、草の根の宣教が具体的にどのように行われたかを明らかにしようとしている。本年度は、研究ノート「1530年代前半下ライン地方宗教改革運動における宣教活動－福音派聖職者ギスベルト・ファン・ラートハイムを中心に」を刊行した。本稿では、下ライン地方のユーリヒ公領西部を中心に活動していた福音派聖職者ギスベルト・ファン・ラートハイムの審問記録を主な史料として使いながら、彼を中心とした草の根宣教について検証を行った。その結果、以下のことが明らかになった。宗派形成が進んでいない初期宗教改革期において、福音派の間にも様々な考え方の違いがあった。宣教は主に口頭での説教や個人的な働きかけで行われていたが、個々の福音派は、説かれたことをそのまま鵜呑みにはせず、自ら考え、取捨選択して自分の信仰を形作っていた。そして、福音派同士は、時に信仰の一部が違うことを認識していても、自らの取れるリスクや熱意の範囲内で、相互に支援し合っていた。こうしたゆるやかな支援のネットワークが、福音主義を地域の中で広げ、福音派の活動を可能にするために重要な役割を果たしていた。
