大企業と中小企業とが共存している国際経済を分析し、共存することによる効果を理解するため、二段階に分けて分析を行った。ここでは、大企業とは自分の行動が他企業に与える影響を考慮した上で自分の行動を決定する企業で、小企業とは自分の行動が他社に与える影響は無視できるほど小さいと思っている企業であるとしている。第一段階では、大企業のみが存在している多国モデルを構築した。ここでは、各国に1社の大企業が立地していると仮定している。大企業は、外国に財を輸出する際に、貿易費用を追加的に支払って、外国市場の製品を輸出できると仮定している。このモデルの分析の結果、国際的な貿易費用が減少することにより、各国の大企業が輸出を増やすことによって、大企業の国内に占める市場シェアが小さくなり価格を低下させることが分かった。そして、貿易費用の減少は経済厚生を常に上昇させることが分かった。第二段階では、大企業と小企業とが混在する多国モデルを構築し、貿易費用の減少が与える影響について分析を行った。ここでは、小企業は自国内にしか生産物を供給できないが、大企業は全世界にその生産量を供給できると仮定している。その結果、貿易費用の減少は各国の大企業の輸出を増やし、大企業の財価格を低下させ、小企業の数を減らし、経済厚生を常に上昇させることが分かった。しかし、大企業の国内シェアが拡大するか縮小するかどうかはあいまいであることがわかった。大企業の国内シェアに関する影響があいまいである理由は、小企業の数が減ることで国内シェアが増える効果と外国製品が流入する結果大企業の国内シェアが減少してしまう効果のどちらが大きいか明確でないからである。
