辰巳栄一日記（東京大学大学院法学政治学研究科附属近代日本法政史料センター原資料部所蔵）の調査と必要箇所の複写を実施した。具体的には、日記の1953年～1963年部分を精査し、辰巳のインテリジェンス活動の内実に迫った。その中で確認できた重要な事実は、1963年には辰巳が出入りする「オフィス」が閉鎖されたことである。これまでの調査で、「オフィス」とはGHQ指揮下で旧陸軍軍人を集めて組織された「河辺機関」と考えられるが、同機関はサンフランシスコ講和条約発効後も存続し、1960年代も活動していた可能性が高い。また、国会図書館および東洋文庫が所蔵する『民主新聞』の調査と必要箇所の複写を実施した。同紙は、1946年チチハルで創刊された日本語新聞であり、創刊当時は謄写版印刷であったが、ハルビンでの発行からは活版印刷となり、後に瀋陽に移り、発行部数は最高7000部に達した。発行は民主新聞社であるが、同社は東北人民政府日本人管理委員会宣教科に所属し、スタッフは中国共産党に協力し日本人を指導した「民族幹事」と呼ばれる人々であり、同紙は日中両共産党の機関紙、プロパガンダ紙の性格が濃厚である。ただ、東北在住の日本人の動向紹介にも紙面がかなり割かれており、中国東北部の日本人留用者及び残留者の研究に有益な内容であることが確認できた。さらに、満蒙開拓平和記念館（長野県阿智村）の訪問と調査も行い、館長の寺沢秀文氏からの聞き取りも実施した。同館の展示は充実した内容であり、特に敗戦後の開拓団引揚時の悲劇は詳細に紹介されていた。また、開拓団関係者の手記も多数収集されており、その中には中国共産党に留用された体験をまとめたものも複数あり、留用者研究に有益なものであった。
