本研究は“言語への気づき”を促進する多読活動の検証をすることである。その課題の1つは、多読を通した文法習得に関する研究である。学習者が易しい英文（i minus 1 level）のなかで、繰り返し同じ文法事項に遭遇することで、部分的に習得された文法事項をさらに強化することができることを明らかにした（Aka, 2020）。学習者自らが文法規則について気づくことで、より記憶として残りやすくなり、さらに、読解中にも読む速度を高めることができ、読解力向上が期待できる。しかし、2020年の研究では、どの程度部分的に習得された文法事項の定着が多読を通して可能なのかまでは把握できていなかったので、2021年度にその分析を行った。2022年度は、多読による文法習得に関する論文執筆を行なった。事前に2割程度習得されている文法事項については、多読を通して定着させることができることが明らかになった。しかし、2割以下の定着率の場合には同じ文法事項に何度遭遇しても定着されづらい傾向が見られた。これらの結果より、多読で文法事項の定着は可能であると考えられるが、0の状態では学習者の気づきにつながらない可能性があることが示唆された。本研究については、論文執筆中である。研究計画が遅れているが、国際誌へ投稿できるよう、準備しているところである。また2023年度は、音声補助を活用した多読指導方法についても模索する予定である。音声補助を活用することで、音声と文字を一致させ、読みの流暢性を高めることができる可能性がある。2023年度は、音声補助活動を取り入れた多読指導の可能性に関する研究についても、分析や論文執筆を進める予定である。
