欧米の研究によると，問題のある子どもの発達と最も関連が高い親子のアタッチメント（愛着）は，低所得やひとり親の家庭において高い傾向にあることが示されている。しかし，日本を含むアジアの国々におけるこれまでの研究は，アタッチメントの問題の少ない，社会経済的に一般的な親子の研究のみに限られていた。本研究は，日本においてこれまでおろそかであった低所得世帯や，低所得と相関の高いひとり親世帯の親子のアタッチメントの理解を深めることである。2021年は，参加者の募集を開始した。研究代表者の所属する大学のある市のほぼ全世帯にチラシを配布し，3世帯から連絡を得た。次の年度からも引き続きチラシの配布を継続することで，少ないが研究に参加してもらえる世帯があることが確認された。2022年度は，低所得やひとり親の家庭からデータを収集することができなかったため，家庭を限定せずに参加者を募集した。そのため8世帯に対して調査を実施した。2021年と合計して11世帯に対して調査を完了したことになる。調査は，実験室場面における親子のアタッチメントの問題を評定する観察方法として開発されたStrange Situation Procedure (SSP) と，家庭場面における親子のアタッチメントの問題を評定するアタッチメントQソート法という観察方法を実施した。また，今後，母親の行動を評定するために，ビデオ撮影も行った。母親からは，子どもの情動と行動の制御に関する質問紙調査にも回答してもらった。また，本研究は，欧米との比較に焦点を当てることを重要視しているため，幼児がSSP中にどれだけ泣いているかということを検討した。既に実施・発表済みの日本と韓国のデータを入手し，評定を行い，アメリカの研究データと比較した。この国際比較研究は，国際学会（International Attachment Conference）にて発表した。
