初年度に、若齢者の特性を把握するための実験を行い、空間の明るさの知覚レベルと要求レベルに関する基礎的データを取得した。2年次にあたる2022年度は、若齢者と比較すべく高齢者の実験を行う予定であったが、同様の研究領域における他の研究者より発表された論文で、好ましいとされる机上面照度の値は、提示される実験空間の影響を受けており、レンジバイアスの影響が否定できない傾向が示された。空間の明るさに限らず、グレアの評価等でもレンジバイアスの影響を報告する論文が発表されている。これらの知見に基づくと、机上面照度と本研究で扱う空間の算術平均輝度との違いはあるものの、空間の明るさの要求レベルに影響を受ける可能性が大変高いと考えられたため、高齢者のデータを取得する前に、予定を変更してその影響の程度を把握すると共に、実験方法見直しの必要の有無を検討するため、実験を行った。その結果、室中央で125lx～1000lxの空間を提示した場合は、最適な明るさとの回答者が750lxで最も多くなるのに対し、250lx～2000lxの空間提示では、1000lxが最も多くなり、要求レベルに変化が生じていることが確認された。高齢者への負担を考え、若齢者の実験条件のうち、限定した条件を高齢者に評価してもらう計画であったが、相互の相対的な比較を行う場合は、評価条件に差を持たせない方が望ましいと考えられる。また提示幅については、研究的な興味おいては、実際の空間で計画する明るさの範囲よりも広く設定することが多いが、提示範囲の上限が高いほど、適切な空間の明るさと解答する物理量が上昇してしまう傾向を踏まえ、現実に即した範囲での実験が必要と思われる。また、知覚レベルを把握するための基準ボックスに関しても、調整手法を調整範囲がわかるスライダーと調整範囲を把握できないスクロールの2方法で比較すると、双方にズレが生じることが把握できた。
