本研究の目的は、高齢がん患者・サバイバーの増加を背景とし、「地方都市において、高齢がん患者の『食べて動ける力』を支える集学的ケアモデルを臨床適用し、その効果を明らかにすること」である。集学的ケアモデル（案）を枠組みとし、ケアモデルの洗練とケア内容の具体化を図るため、主として高齢食道がん患者に焦点をあてた「食べること」と「動くこと」への支援に関する文献レビューを行った。化学放射線療法を行う高齢食道がん患者の「食べること」への支援に関する文献レビューでは、「苦痛なく食べること」を支えるための症状モニタリングや痛みのマネジメントの他、経腸栄養等にてエネルギー摂取を維持すること、食事内容の調整の工夫などが含まれていた。経口摂取ができない間の機能低下に対する予防的介入としての嚥下リハビリテーションに関する報告も見られた。化学放射線療法を行う高齢食道がん患者の「動くこと」への支援に関する文献レビューでは、PubMedと医学中央雑誌によるデータベース検索と論文精読により抽出されたシステマティックレビュー5件から、平均年齢60～70歳代の進行がん患者が有酸素運動やレジスタンス運動を安全に実施できること、身体機能や生活機能、心理社会機能の改善の可能性があることが明らかになった。結果より、これらの運動が持久力や筋力の改善を通じて高齢がん患者の日常の暮らしの維持に役立つことが示唆されたことから、現在、「動くこと」の支援内容の抽出のために、これらの運動を活用したランダム化比較試験（RCT）のレビューを継続中である。今後は、これらの文献レビューの結果を参考にしながら、実践への適用に向けてケア内容の具体化と洗練を進めていく予定である。
