Cytoplasmic Polyadenylation Element Binding proteins (CPEBs) regulate protein synthesis inneurons and promote neuronal hyperactivity in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). Typical changes inglial cells during TLE include the loss of intercellular coupling in astrocytes and the neurotoxicsecretion of proteases by microglial cells. Key proteins mediating such dysfunctions are regulatedby CPEB. By molecular, physiological and morphometric approaches, we investigate themechanisms by which CPEBs promote neuronal hyperactivity and the role CPEBs play in astrocytesand microglial cells using transgenic mice in an animal model of TLE.
