南極観測隊基地や国際宇宙ステーションなど長期隔離環境では歯科医師不在、歯科医療器具の制限のため、う蝕や歯周病など口腔疾患の急性化は深刻な問題である。これまで極地閉鎖環境ではストレスの増悪により、口腔セルフケアが不十分になることや口腔の免疫機能が低下することが報告されている。南極観測基地では、疼痛や機能障害を伴う口腔の急性症状が発症した時に十分に対応する歯科医師が不在となるため、歯科健康管理は特に重要となる。このような環境で口腔疾患を予防するには歯科疾患の発症リスクを正確に把握する必要がある。本研究では長期間隔離環境に滞在する者の口腔疾患を予防することを目的に、1年半に及ぶ長期南極滞在の越冬隊員と4ヶ月滞在の夏隊の歯科疾患リスクを検証する。その調査結果をもとに、遠隔歯科相談システムの有効性を発症頻度の減少について、調査を行う。2020年度は第62次南極観測隊員を対象にベースライン、2回目調査を行った。調査項目としては、(1) 質問票調査（夏・冬両隊）口腔保健行動質問票ストレスに関する質問票（）(2) 口腔保健状態調査（夏・冬両隊）口腔内診査（南極観測隊参加前の口腔内診査のデータ）であった。また、南極観測隊員と比較したその他の職業環境の口腔保健状態や行動の調査を実施し、学会で発表を行うことができた。しかし、該当年度において、コロナ禍における極地研究所との調整に時間がかかっており、関連するデータの収集は一部しか行うことができなかった。

The Antarctic Survey Base and the International Space Station have been isolated for a long time. The absence of dentists, the limitation of dental medical equipment, and the acute development of dental diseases are the main problems. This is a report of increased oral immune function in a polar environment. The Antarctic Survey Base is particularly important for dental health management when pain and dysfunction accompany acute symptoms of the oral cavity. It is necessary to prevent dental diseases from occurring in the environment. This study was designed to detect oral diseases in winter and summer team members who were isolated for a long time.
