歯科衛生士の需給に関しては、国の就業届に係る形式・集計システム上の問題などがあり、常勤・非常勤の割合や非常勤の勤務時間など、その実態が明らかになっていないため、具体的な推計ができないという問題点がある。そこで、本研究では、新潟県内の歯科診療所約1,200カ所、病院歯科約70カ所を対象に、歯科衛生士勤務状況等に関するwebベースの調査報告システムを構築することにより、各医療機関に勤務する歯科衛生生の属性（性・年齢、婚姻状況等）、勤務状況（常勤・非常勤の別、週当たり勤務時間、勤務年数等）、業務内容別・1勤務あたり担当患者数、過去1年間の退職者数・求人数・採用数などの実態を明らかにすることを目的としている。研究初年度である、令和2年度に新潟県内の全歯科医療機関を対象に、調査への参加可否および連絡先・担当者等を調査するとともに、Webベースの調査報告システムを構築する予定であったが、県歯科医師会との事前協議において、新型コロナウィルス感染症の感染拡大に伴い、治療内容の制限、受診患者の減少など、通常の歯科医療機関の運営状況とは異なっているうえに、歯科衛生士の稼働や雇用状況も不安定となっていることから、感染状況が落ち着いた時点で実施したいとの申し入れがあったこと等から、実質的な研究の開始を、後送りしていた。令和4年度も県歯科医師会と断即的に調整を行ってきたが、第7波、第8波と従前を上まわる感染拡大が続いたことから、県歯科医師会としての実施合意が得られず、本格的な研究の着手に至っていない状況であったが、令和5年5月からの新型コロナ感染症の5類移行に伴い、令和5年中の実施に向けて、実施時期等の調整を行っているところである。
