2022年度になり、海外調査が可能となったことから、文研調査のほかに、夏期および春期にフィリピンにて調査研究活動をおこなった。本年は、３つの研究課題のうち、論点IIと論点IIIについて主に調査活動をおこなった。論点IIは「エスニシティを固定化する複数のポリティクスの働き」であり、マニラのムスリム居住地区で調査を実施した。地区を治める評議会に加え、2年前から若者による組織が結成された。そこでは、６つの民族とそれぞれの民族を代表する理事がいる評議会に対し、若者組織においては、上の世代の反省を踏まえ、むしろエスニシティによる分類をなくし、ムスリムとしての文化や共通性を重要視していこうという活動をしていた。世代による変化、あるいは活動の棲み分けと考えてもよいだろう。論点IIIは「ムスリム多数派自治地域における「ハーフ」「メスティソ」との比較」である。南部ミンダナオのなかでも、タウスグやサマと呼ばれる人々が多く住むサンボアンガ市を調査地とした。ある親族集団を中心として、そこに、マレーシアとの間を行き来していた「ハーフ」、海外就労した先でスリランカ人の男性と結婚した母親を持つ「ハーフ」、サンボアンガ市にあるフィリピン国軍の基地に勤務していたキリスト教徒の男性を父に持つ「ハーフ」など、さまざまである。だが、比較的高学歴な親族集団の持つ海外就労志向性に対して、イスラーム学校に通うことで自らの立ち位置を確認する者や、父方の親族とのつながりを重視してキャリアを目指す者など、その集団内に留まらない者もいた。このように、ムスリム社会のなかでも「ハーフ」や「メスティソ」と呼ばれうる人たちのなかには、フィリピン国内だけを研究の範囲とするのでは不足であり、フィリピンを超えた選択先を見据えた視座が必要であることがわかった。
