現在のところ研究対象とする科目がほとんど実在しないため、学習状況を想定し難い学生が多いことを考慮し、より身近な食領域と比較することによって関心を測ることを試みた。第一回目は学生が調査主体となり、京都にある4つの私立総合大学の構内において、自然属性に偏りのない５１０人の学生に対し、対面で二択質問をした。結果、建築学235人・栄養学275人と、栄養学への関心のほうが高かった。しかし学年が上がるごとに建築学への関心が高まり、４回生でわずかだが逆転した。男子学生では建築学153人・栄養学１３２人、女子学生では建築学８２人・栄養学１４３人と、性差による逆転も見られた。第二回目は、インターネット配信で集めた約２０００名の中から対面調査の回答者と同じ18歳から２４歳の学生４４７名の回答を抽出して分析した。すると女性においては食領域（栄養学・調理学・食品安全学）が住領域の２倍の関心を集めた。男性においても、住領域１０２人・食領域１３２人と、食領域に軍配が上がった。第一回調査との相違は、食品安全学や調理学といった内容がより興味を引いたためと思われる。選択理由については、住領域のテーマを選んだ理由は「仕事・趣味」「雑学として」が多く、「生活に必要」と考える人が少ないことが、食領域の科目選択理由と異なった。これら二つの調査結果を合わせて考察し、日本建築学会近畿支部研究報告会（２０２３年６月24日）に、「一般大学生の住領域科目への学習意欲 - 食領域科目との比較から -」と題する研究報告を発表する（原稿提出・採択済）。抽出した18から24歳の学生以外にも全年齢層から回答を得ているので、他の年代との比較も含めて定量分析し、2023年中の原著論文発表を目指している。またこれらの選好性調査以外と並行し、教育機関の視察およびカリキュラム調査を継続中である。
